NMC plans 10 senior citizens recreational centres

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has proposed to construct 10 senior citizens recreational centres, one each in 10 zones. Construction on one centre kicked-off on Friday.

Mayor Nanda Jichkarperformed bhoomipuja for construction of centre at Aaji-Aajoba garden, Deendayal Nagar in Laxmi Nagar on Friday. Chairman of education consultative committee Dilip Dive, corporators Pramod Tabhane, Sonali Kadu and Rajeev Hadap were present.

Jichkar said senior citizens should make use of the centres as their own rights. “Aaji-Aajoba garden has been chosen for the centre due to demand from senior citizens residing in the area. NMC had facilitated green gym and also compost fertilizer production unit in this garden earlier. The garden will be known for various innovative things in future,” he said.

Prominent among senior citizens who were present in the programme were Chandrakant Sonali, Ramesh Giradkar, Prabhakar Choubey, Manohar Dabhak, D Deepak, Pramod Joshi, Deepak Mathur, Chandrakant Deshmukh, Vinod Borkute, Avinash Deshmukh, Smita Pujari, Pratibha Giradkar, Lata Darwekar and others.
