  1. Drink as much as you need

What to do in order not to be incontinent? The first thought that comes to most people’s mind is simple – to drink less. Although very simple, this solution is also dangerous for one’s health and can have an opposite influence on incontinence. Smaller fluid intake will decrease the functional volume of the bladder and urge to urinate will be felt much quicker than before and even when urinary bladder is filled with little of urine.

  1. Keep a balanced diet and take care of regular bowel movement

Keeping a balanced diet, providing the body with all necessary nutrients, will help you to feel good and avoid digestive ailments. Frequent constipations caused by an imbalanced diet lead to overstretching of the digestive tract ending. In consequence, the mass of faeces laying heavy in the intestine presses the urinary bladder decreasing its volume and irritating its wall.

  1. Control your weight

Obesity makes the pelvic floor muscles weaker which causes lowering of the organs within pelvis. Anatomical changes in the pelvic muscles surrounding the urethra are one of the causes of incontinence in women.

  1. Modify your environment

Providing an easy access to the toilet is one of the most important factors conditioning a sense of well-being of a person with incontinence. Adjusting the environment is especially important for those with limited mobility.

  1. The most important thing – prophylaxis

Everyday proper hygiene (including the use of specialistic skin care and absorbent products) is crucial in the prophylaxis of the urinary tract inflammation. Usually bedridden people experience weakened resistance to infections. That is why it is very important to reduce to minimum the risk of the urinary tract infection. Frequent washing of the crotch, changing absorbent products when needed, protecting the skin with the use of special cosmetics – all this is necessary.
