Hi Thanks for your question it is one of the common questions from older adults. The normal changes that happens as a consequence of normal ageing is 1) Early morning sleep is reduced and they feel very sleep earlier in the evening. 2) Efficiency of sleep comes down because of nocturnal awekening 3) Time required to fall asleep at night is increased . These changes leads to poor quality of sleep,daytime tiredness and daytime sleeping. These are some of the measures you could take to help you sleep better. 1) Drink good quantity of water as directed by your doctor upto 6pm and from 6-8pm be very judicious with drinking water ,after 8pm try not to drink water . Use the rest room befor you go to bed and you shouldn’t wake up at night. 2) Eat your dinner two hours before you bedtime and avoid coffe or tea after 6pm. 3) Please don’t watch night NEWS it causes a lot of unnecessary anxiety , all my patients who stopped watching NEWS have told me it has helped them immensly. They can watch afternoon NEWS. 4) If you wake up at 3am don’t go to the rest room because you are awake rather lie in bed you will go back to sleep. It is unfortunately a very common practice to drink water at night after going to rest room no wonder they wake up again. If you follow the instruction then your sleep will improve ,hope this helps
