Diabetes when fully established is difficult to entirely get rid of. It can be kept under control by life style changes and appropriate medication. However, in very obese patients, currently bariatric surgery may help in long term remission of diabetes. It cannot be said to be permanent getting rid of. In some cases diabetes may reappear after a few years of bariatric surgery. At present this is the only method which talks about a “cure” for diabetes.
